Emtec Electronic measures the Softness of Textiles in Barcelona

Recently, the German company emtec Electronic GmbH celebrated a great success: at the beginning of this year the 300th TSA Softness Analyzer has been sold. The device is now used in 48 countries, in each part of the world. At the ITMA 2019 in Barcelona, Spain from June 20th to 26th, the company will present its well-known softness testing instrument to the textile and garment industry at booth no. C101.

Additionally, on June 21st, Mr. Alexander Grüner will speak about the original background and the new insights of the measurement method in his p73resentation “Softness Analyzer: Objective measurement of softness, roughness and stiffness – the three basic parameters, which determine the human feeling” during session 3 about innovations in nonwovens technology.

The TSA Softness Analyzer enables an objective and reliable evaluation of the softness, roughness and stiffness of fabrics. From these three parameters, an overall hand feel value can be calculated, adapted to a certain market or product. This hand feel value can be used in the quality control, for example. The advantage of the three single parameters appears in a huge amount of chances in the optimization of the production and converting processes, and in the development of new products with certain haptic properties.

Included into the softness measurement is the measurement of the viscoelastic, elastic and plastic properties, which are represented by the elasticity, plasticity and hysteresis. With an extra module, the compressibility can be measured.
