Revolutionizing Touch: emtec Electronic to Showcase Advanced TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer at CLOTECH 2024
The German manufacturer of specialized testing and measuring instruments, emtec Electronic, will showcase its redesigned TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer at the CLOTECH conference in Dresden, Germany, from September 5-6, 2024.
Taking place biennially, CLOTECH highlights global advancements in protective clothing, smart textiles, and related innovations. This year, Alexander Gruener, emtec’s Global Business Development Manager, will deliver a special presentation highlighting the unique qualities of the TSA and emphasizing its role in enhancing quality assurance and communication within the textile supply chain.
The enhanced TSA provides objective data on the subjective phenomenon of human tactile sensation. It measures surface softness, surface smoothness, stretch and recovery behavior in less than two minutes, simulating human fingertips with its measuring principle. The most important innovations of the device include:
Measurement of Thermohaptics: Equipped with state-of-the-art thermohaptic technology, the TSA evaluates thermal insulation as well as surface thermal conductivity, providing objective data on how warm or cool a material feels to the touch.
Measuring Springback Behavior: Utilizing an improved method, the TSA accurately measures a fabric's ability to return to its original shape after deformation, ensuring compliance with specific performance standards.
Online Virtual Database: The Virtual Haptic Library, developed in collaboration with Black Swan Textiles, is a license-based online database in which TSA sample data can be processed and categorized according to specific haptic characteristics. It can be accessed in real-time by authorized personnel from anywhere in the world, enabling efficient quality assurance and control regardless of location.
Improved User Experience: The updated TSA device is lighter than the previous model, offers simplified assembly of parts during set-up, and features a touchscreen with smart software for user-friendly and intuitive operation.
High-Resolution Camera: An advanced camera allows the user to capture a high-resolution image of the clamped sample, revealing the structure, texture, and visual embellishments.
“Quantifying and digitizing haptic parameters opens up exciting new possibilities for quality assurance and product reproduction,” explains Gruener. “This innovation reduces the need to ship samples worldwide to test haptic properties, resulting in a swift and significant return on investment.”
